The General<\/em> is a 1926 action-comedy film by and starring Buster Keaton. Set during the American Civil War, it is based on the historically documented Andrews Raid of April 12, 1862. Locomotive engineer Johnnie Gray sets off alone to chase down his beloved train, \u201cThe General,\u201d after it is hijacked by Union spies. Through determination, daring stunts, and clever improvisation, he succeeds in reclaiming both his engine and the affection of his sweetheart, Annabelle Lee. The General<\/em> is considered one of the greatest comedies in film history.<\/p>\r\n
