Silent Film Concert “From Morn to Midnight”
15. September 2007 @ 20:00 - 21:00

Info
Brief Summary:
Germany 1920
Director: Karlheinz Martin
Screenplay: Ernst Deutsch
52 minutes (at 18 frames/sec)
The quintessential German expressionist silent film classic, presented in a historic unique copy, is shown on the big screen at the original reduced silent film speed, film-historically accurate.
Content:
Lively, intense, exaggerated, and expressionistic, the film tells the story of a cashier who wants to spend the first and last day of his ‘free’ life happily and carefree with an Italian lady. To do this, he steals 60,000 marks from the cash register and flees into the wild life of the big city, where he is torn back and forth by his obsessions.
In the year of its creation, 1920, German cinema owners refused to show it; in Japan, the film was even banned!
Music Version:
New music for keyboards (organ, grand piano, positive organ, harpsichord), double percussion, tenor solo, flying sounds, and eight-part mixed choir by Wilfried Kaets
