In short:
As the first feminist filmmaker and occasional leader of the French film club movement, Germaine Dulac, who worked within the context of French Surrealism, was at the center of film criticism and theoretical debates in the 1920s. Toward the end of the silent film era, her film-historical articles significantly contributed to preserving the legacy of early French avant-garde cinema.
