In brief:
This is the tragic yet comical story of the rise and fall of the lowly clerk Akaky Akakievich.
His life begins to change only when he decides to buy himself a new overcoat. After much saving (and going hungry), Akakievich finally holds his new coat in his hands. The coat transforms him both outwardly and inwardly.
