In brief:
The film is based on the legendary tales surrounding the Prague Rabbi Judah Loew and tells the Jewish legend of the Golem:
The Prague ghetto in the 16th century. When Rabbi Loew reads in the stars that misfortune threatens the Jewish community, he creates, according to an ancient legend, a powerful clay figure—the Golem—and brings it to life using magical powers. The Golem saves the emperor’s life, and the emperor consequently revokes his decree to expel the Jews from the city. With this, the Golem has fulfilled his purpose. However, when Loew’s assistant uses the Golem to attack a rival, the creature goes berserk and sets the city ablaze. Outside the city walls, he finally encounters a small girl…
